| 12 February 2010In 1969, when I was a very junior editor at the Digest, my wife and I welcomed the birth of our third daughter. The next day at work I was surprised to receive a note from Mr. Wallace, written in pencil on a piece of yellow paper. It read: “One pair, plus three of a kind, make for a full house. Congratulations! Dewitt Wallace.” That message seemed to me then, as it still does today, to sum up everything that he and his magazine were all about: it was succinct, it was witty, it was thoughtful-- and it connected with me on a very personal level.
